FEATURES:
- The architect was commissioned by the owners to design the best automobile and service facility in the country for Mercedes Benz. The architect then visited showrooms across the United States.
- This 110,000 SF showroom and service facility is a one-of-a-kind building and includes a coffee bar (Starbucks), fireplace, children’s playroom, a retail shop and a virtual environment to choose finishes prior to your car being designed.
- It also has 42 service bays and a lower level for parking 83 cars.
- An 18 foot high coffered ceiling, fronted by a large expanse of 13 foot high glass panels is supported by structural glass mullions, creating a sheer 200 foot long glass wall with narrow fieldstone piers. These piers support a dramatic 18 foot cantilevered overhang.
- The cantilevered overhang is the building’s signature form, quoted Inga Saffron, the Architectural Critic, in her article written for the Philadelphia Inquirer on June 27, 2003.
- This project won the 2003 AIA Delaware Colleagues Choice Award for Design Excellence.
